In Ghana, the OPEN WINGS Foundation supports projects led by Monika Quarcoo, who moved to the town of Duadze in 2013. Monika undertook the construction of a kindergarten named after Janusz Korczak. Where did the idea of educating children in faraway Ghana come from?
While observing a group of women working on palm oil production, Monika noticed that their small children were accompanying them in this hard work, lacking a safe place to play. Observing this reality turned into a desire to HELP.
Today, with the support of her husband and a group of collaborators, Monika continues her educational work in Duadze, which is valued by the local community.
As part of the Start from Ghana Foundation, Monika runs a program for over 1,000 young girls that fights against menstrual poverty and promotes mental health.
The foundation’s motto is: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” The local community has awarded her the honorary title of Queen of Development in Duadze.
