The OPEN WINGS Foundation, together with the Polish Medical Team Helping Hand, organizes trips for dozens of Polish doctors and nurses to the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Every year, since 2022, we perform surgeries in hospitals in Addis Ababa.

Our teams include neurosurgeons, urologists, ophthalmologists, gynecologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and operating room nurses. In addition to providing assistance to those in need, we also train local medical staff who assist during surgeries. We often perform the first surgeries of this kind in the history of Ethiopia.

The actions are logistically complicated due to the large number of people and equipment, most of which we bring from Poland. Patients for more complicated surgeries are selected in advance by Ethiopian doctors and consulted before our arrival.

The doctors mainly come from hospitals in polish cities such as Włocławek, Toruń, and Bydgoszcz.

In Ethiopia, we support dozens of families as part of the “heart adoption” program. We have local volunteers who find families in the most difficult life situations.

We try to visit our families every year and see how 100 PLN a month changes their lives for the better. Thanks to this support, they have a roof over their heads, do not go hungry, and their children can go to school.

We help children and families in Addis Ababa, Dessie, and Lalibela. This is the best example of how a little can do so much. The photos show smiling, happy faces that looked completely different before the assistance began. The needs are enormous.

In addition to Ethiopia, we also support families in Madagascar, Cameroon, and Chad. We encourage people taking a part in the “heart adoption” program and helping families from Africa by making monthly contributions.
